An in-depth interview with the new LUXE Paris ambassador
''THIS CONTEST ALLOWED ME
TO FIND BACK THE FEELING
OF BEING A WINNER!''
“This competition and victory couldn't come at a better time in my life! I just founded my enterprise two years ago in real life and I saw all my efforts almost dashed due to the pandemic and I really needed to focus on a project, work hard, and be successful!
`` This competition allowed me to rediscover the feeling of being a winner! ''
The Canadian Avalon Chrome, winner of the LUXE Paris LOOK of the YEAR competition, discovered Second Life 17 years ago at a time when teleportation did not yet exist.
"You had to walk or fly from one sim to another and you could hear all kinds of construction noises, it was very strange," she recalls. Her first avatar will serve her mainly to explore and participate in some role-playing games. '' It was for the pleasure of writing stories because I love to write, '' she explains. And then one day, this first explorer avatar discovered one of the rare fashion boutiques on the grid at this time. This was the first step in the birth of Avalon, a stunning virtual beauty with a body sculpted by Wren Noir, jeweled by Chop Zuey (where she works as a model in store) and passionately stylish.
HER FRIENDS CALL HER
`` RUNWAY RONA ''
“I love fashion in all my lives,” says the one named Rona in real life, whom her friends nickname Runway Rona!
"Fashion allows us to express our creativity and our identity," she says. `` Graphic designer in the real world, I am a very creative person and I love this freedom of expression that fashion gives me! ''
Like many girls in Second Life, Avalon spends a lot of time playing Barbie. "I have a lot of fun creating looks that I then capture in photos," explains this graduate of Visionary Photography. Past master in the art of creating powerful fashion images, Avalon was also a photography teacher at the Regal Modeling Institute, where she also trained as a professional model. You want to see? Well, all of the photos accompanying this interview are signed Avalon.
Beautiful, intelligent, talented and passionate, Avalon also has a heart of gold. "I approach life and others with love and compassion and it has taken me a long way," she says. The faults of this rare pearl? Everything that comes with perfectionism!
“A lot of people flaunt their perfectionism on the honor roll but for me it's a curse that costs me a lot of time and energy and causes me a lot of sleepless nights,” she explains. "I have to learn to be less demanding of others and of myself."
A SURPRISED BUT MINUTELY PREPARED VICTORY
Completely surprised by her victory, Avalon nevertheless prepared it at length and thoroughly.
"I approached this competition like you apply for a job," she said. `` I said to myself: LUXE Paris is looking for an ambassador, so I have to show the judges that I have more to offer than a beautiful look. ''
On the style side, Avalon connected with LUXE Paris like you put on a glove. “LUXE Paris is all about me,” she says. It's an elegant brand, with class and just the right amount of sensuality. Parisian Skytower and Mika Palmyra also bring beautiful touches of daring to their creations and I really like unusual looks. ''
On the fashion catwalk of the grand finale, she dazzled the jury by accessorizing a sparkling day dress with an evening shawl and enhancing her gala outfit with a golden train, borrowed from the LUXE Paris wedding dress collection.
BEHIND THE FIRES OF THE RAMP, A RUDE TECHNICAL BATTLE
And yet, while she shone with all her fires on the stage, Avalon fought a technical battle at all times. On the morning of the competition, her Firestorm viewer declared itself inoperable despite her best efforts to reactivate it. She therefore found herself on the runway at the controls of the Second Life viewer a viewer that she had not used for many years and for which she had no reference point.
''I WAS SURE EVERYTHING WAS WASTED SO WHEN I WON I WAS FLABBERGASTED"
'' Standing in front of my computer I was in such shock I was suffocating and my husband was scared for me,'' recounts Avalon.
''Then, immense joy came over me. Victory was therefore possible even when everything seemed to be bitter against us. What a beautiful message I found in this contest! ''
Astonished to see his wife react with so much emotion to her victory in a virtual "beauty contest", Rona's husband will ask her, to better understand: Is it as if we had won the lotto? "No honey," Avalon replied before taking a thoughtful sip of the wine he had just brought her to celebrate. "It would be more like we won the Indianapolis 500!"
Superficial beauty contests? This is not what the Avalon story tells us. It is certain that the game is not the same in the virtual world since everyone can be beautiful and build their body to their liking. Performance also relies heavily on the development of technical talent. Virtual mannequins are virtuosos of the computer keyboard. But beyond these differences, Avalon believes that 'real or virtual' pageants help grow those who participate.
"It's a great tool for building self-confidence and getting to know and surpass yourself," she says. However, you have to approach these competitions with a healthy attitude, considering yourself a winner for everything you have learned, regardless of the final score. There is one crown but so much more to be won. It's a great opportunity to make friends and experience female mutual aid. On the other hand, if you are strictly competitive, you can hurt yourself a lot. ''
NERVE WRACKING AND SURREALIST BUT INCREDIBLY WONDERFUL
His fondest memories of the competition?
"When I heard my name attached to the title of LUXE Paris LOOK of the YEAR," she answers without hesitation. I started to search feverishly where that damn viewer had placed the crown that had just been handed to me ... It might have only lasted a few minutes, but I felt like I had stayed. there for an hour before I finally got to put on that beautiful Zuri tiara! It was nerve wracking and surreal, but incredibly wonderful! ''
Avalon also talks about her meeting with Ponchituti Boucher from One On One Modeling Agency, who acted as an advisor to the finalists wishing to refine their art. "I understand why they call her the mother of all models," says Avalon of this legend of the virtual world of fashion. She is so knowledgeable and so generous with her knowledge! Her advice is extremely valuable to me! ''
"My battle with the machine," she recalls, laughing.
Her plans as LUXE Paris ambassador?
“I fully intend to use all my virtual and real life skills to promote this fashion house that I adore and which gives me such an exhilarating experience,” Avalon replies passionately. `` I am so proud to be part of the LUXE Paris team! I like the fashion that Parisian and Mika create, but I also like the human values that these two entrepreneurs convey. ''
Skytower and Palmyra have effectively built their LUXE Paris LOOK of the YEAR competition with two objectives in mind: to find an ambassador for their brand and to allow many women to showcase themselves, express their creativity and enrich their self-esteem. . With that in mind, the competition is open to all stylish women, even those with no modeling experience. It was a neophyte, Charlotte Chisolm, who won second position in the competition. The competition also includes the election of 30 semi-finalists whose photos are broadcast in the media. In short, this quest to find the ideal ambassador for LUXE Paris is also an opportunity to do good for girls and the testimony, moving and inspiring, of Avalon Rona Runway (wink) makes us think that the mission is accomplished.
TELLS HER STORY
IN SL CONFIDENCIAL
First runner up LUXE Paris LOOK of the YEAR
''I FELT LIKE
A BABY GIRAFFE
LEARNING TO WALK''
First runner up LUXE Paris LOOK of the YEAR
Charlotte Chisolm is a funny Australian with a sparkling charm who had never walked on a fashion runway before being listed as a finalist in the prestigious competition LUXE Paris LOOK of the YEAR. More remarkable still, she finished the competition on the second step of the podium!
Were you afraid when you found yourself, totally inexperienced, in the grand finale of the competition?
I have to admit that competing against experienced models was intimidating at first but everyone's kindness helped to relieve some of the anxiety.
Did you have to learn a lot? What was the most difficult? The most fascinating?
I felt like a baby giraffe learning to walk! I had to learn everything from getting my avatar in perfect shape to walk like a model and choose poses to suit the clothes and the catwalk. The hardest part was to get over my own doubts, being a complete beginner, and get up to compete with confidence. In fact, the whole experience was fascinating for me, I had never experienced the glamorous side of SL before and I was in awe of the mentors and other girls in the competition.
‘’ My husband thought I was crazy
to get up in the middle of the night
to attend practices and events ’’
Did you find all the help you needed within the organization?
I did! OMG I can't thank enough Ponchituti Boucher and Viana from the One on One agency. Their guidance and help were worth its weight in gold. Mika, Paris and Julia from LUXE Paris were always happy to answer the questions, which also made the
experience more relaxed.
What was your first reaction when they announced your name as first runner-up?
I'm not going to hide anything from you, there were expressions of emotion, I was absolutely shocked! In no case did I see it coming, so the
surprise was total!
What was the reaction of those around you?
I am married and I have 2 children in RL. My husband thought i was crazy
for getting up at all hours to attend practices and events, because I live in Australia. But when I won, he was very happy for me!
What do you attribute your success to?
The fabulous advice they gave me and taking the time to learn the trade. The styling of my competition outfits focused on LUXE Paris creations.
What is the most important thing that you take away from this experience?
Don't be afraid to try something new! Jump ahead because you never know what will happen.
‘’ My grandmother
taught me to be
a strong woman
with a soft center ’’
Will you continue in modeling? Are you now interested in a modeling career?
I will continue to represent LUXE Paris but due to my location in the world and my work in RL, I do not have the availability to be a full-time model and to give the needed dedication.
Do you plan to do the contest again next year?
I think I would like to walk away from the top. For me, being the first runner-up is a great achievement in itself.
May I ask you what is your field in RL?
I am a registered nurse.
Did this contest bring you something in your real life?
It showed me that if you put your mind to something, you can achieve it if you put in the work and are never afraid of try new things.
What is your greatest quality and your worst defect?
My sense of humor is my greatest quality, I enjoy making people laugh.
The worst flaw is my need for organization, sometimes it can drive people crazy.
What is your passion or favorite hobby?
What do you value the most and why?
My children, although they give me headaches at times, I could not imagine my life without them. Without ringing too cliché, they are my world.
Who was the most influential person in your life?
My grandmother was. She taught me to be a strong woman with a soft center, that can be independent.
MEET AEALLA ILLYAR IN SL CONFIDENCIAL MAGAZINE
Second runner up LUXE Paris LOOK of the YEAR
''A GREAT MODEL
IS KIND AND WELCOMING
TO ALL MODELS
AND IS INSPIRATION
Rocking the runway for twelve years, Aealla Illyar is a shining star in the sky of the virtual fashion industry
and it was no big surprise when she was voted a grand finalist by
the jury of the LUXE Paris LOOK of the YEAR competition. This beautiful blond with a romantic look lit up the runway of the competition with her all-white outfit and mask of diamonds. But when you get to know her a little better
you discover that she is not only beautiful in appearance but also in her heart.
Top model in Second Life, she's actually a social worker in RL, a fusion that says a lot. But let her tell her history ...
What makes a model popular?
I believe it is the contacts a model has that makes her popular as well as her ability to be easy to work with and to style well. The ambition to model in many shows, magazines and ads is also important. But this can also cause overexposure and do the opposite. It's a very fine line.
Mostly, I believe a great model is kind and welcoming to all models and is inspiration to other models. Also, having great relationships with designers is also a good thing.
''WORK HARD AND TAKE CRITICISM''
How do we make this popularity last?
I am an introvert by nature. I know that's hard to believe for some people because I can come across friendly and welcoming. I suppose that's the nature of being raised in the south of the USA. But as long as you are willing to work hard and can take criticism and improve from that, I believe you can always be in demand.
Certified model from Moda, Edge, Scala and MVW Academy, you have been starring on the runway for 12 years! Why the art of modeling? What drives this obvious passion?
Mostly to learn new skills and make new connections through modeling. It always helps to have some connections and sometimes you meet some great people that become your best friends.
Has there been a lot of change in your modeling work since you started? Which?
When I started modeling there was lots of prim skirts, which I liked cause they flowed down the runway like a dream. You spent time adjusting the prims on outfits to make sure they fit right and adjusting your shape. Now you don't have to adjust each prim which would take hours sometimes. I would say modeling was harder when I started than how it is today because of all the extra work that went into modeling. I don't think a lot of people understand how much time a model spends on one outfit to style and pick poses and walks to go with the outfit, just to be on stage for a moment showing that outfit.
Either way, it is hard work and it does not always pay well, so to do it for as long as I have is because I enjoy it. And if I can give one piece of advice is that a job of a model is to show a designer's creation, not to showcase the model.
''SL HELPS ME
Is fashion important in all your lives, RL and SL, and why?
Right now, I'm working from home, so fashion is not a big part of my life right now. But I've always admired the creativity of some designers and their thought process into coming up with such a beautiful line of clothing in real life. In Second Life, I do like fashion also, but I often dress based on my mood. So sometimes I'm more into fashion then other times, I feel more laid back.
How would you describe your style and what is the link with LUXE Paris?
My style is very much based on my moods and also, where I may be going. I don't have one particular style, but I would say if I had to chose, it would be more laid back and classic. I love the minimalist looks. I don't think you need to over style an outfit to make it wonderful. My link to LUXE Paris goes back to when I first was in the competition a few years ago and came in as first runner-up back then. I have modeled off and on for a few years with LUXE Paris and just adore the designers, Mika and Paris.
Also LUXE Paris and I are a very easy match because they have so many outfits that are available that they can easily match any mood I may be in. It is also easy to style and I know I will be fashionable no matter where I go.
What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to myself because I put in the hard work, money to be trained and the effort. I also had great support from my friends here on SL that encourage me, even when I feel like giving up. My friends are such a great support system. I love them.
Does SL affect your real life?
SL does not affect my RL but my real life does affect my Second Life as I bring a bit of myself to this game. I'm not able to separate the SL Aealla to the real life me as they are one in the same. SL helps me carry out my dreams and do things that I would not do in real life, like modeling.
What is your greatest quality and your worst flaw?
My greatest quality is that I'm dependable. My worst flaw is that sometimes I have OCD about certain things and I think it drives people crazy.
Do you have another passion or a favorite hobby besides virtual modeling?
Playing games with friends and hanging out with them. They are best to keep you down to Earth and I think I have some of the best friends on SL.
''I VALUE HONESTY
AND TRUTH THE MOST''
What do you value most and why?
I value honesty and truth the most because without that you cannot build a relationship, either personal or professional.
Who was the most influential person in your life?
My mother, who is no longer here. She had many obstacles in life and she didn't let it get her down. She showed me how to be a strong woman and still have a soft side.
The dazzling Canadian Avalon Chrome was proclaimed LUXE Paris LOOK of the YEAR on Sunday in a very close competition that lasted four hours!
Australian Charlotte Chisolm finished second while American Aealla Illyar took third.
Twelve finalists were in the race for this prestigious title which was accompanied by a first prize of L $ 50,000 in cash. The runners up, for their part, received L $ 10,000 in cash each.
''WOW! I'm in complete shock, '' Avalon exclaimed as she hurriedly put on the precious crown of diamonds, pearls and aquamarines created for her by Zuri Rayna.
''What a thrilling ride this has been and I'm both surprised and elated that I've arrived here. Lag-walking, but here!
The day had started badly for Avalon. Her Firestorm viewer was no longer working and she had to relearn quickly the Second Life viewer. ''I was stressed and I posed too fast in the second walk,'' relates the new LUXE Paris ambassador. '' I was sure I blew it! So when i heard my name, I was absolutely floored! I started to shake and hyperventilate and my RL husband was scared for me lol... He does not know much about SL and he was surprised to see that winning this contest was having such effect on me! Once reassured, he went to get me a good cup of wine to celebrate!''
Professional model for four years, Avalon says she prepared for this competition as for a real job in RL. `` I really got involved and I was confident but at the same time I knew that I was up against several very beautiful and very talented competitors. ''
If Avalon's surprise was great, imagine that of Charlotte Chisolm, the first runner up. The beautiful Australian never hit the runway before she enter the LUXE Paris LOOK of the YEAR competition! But with intensive modeling training at In-Nova Academy and the coaching of the top models Ponchituti Boucher and Vianna Oaks from One On One Modeling Agency, Charlotte has proven to be a tremendous asset to the fashion world!
